Over the weekend a Border Patrol agent was pronounced dead and another is in critical condition after suffering an ambush by a group of illegal immigrants who they had been tracking on the border between Texas and Mexico.
Breitbart broke the story on Sunday, detailing the horrific encounter that left Border Patrol Agent Rogilio Martinez dead and another agent who came to his aid seriously injured.
We do know that two Border Patrol agents working as partners in the Van Horn Station area of responsibility of the Big Bend Sector responded to “activity.” Whether the activity was an activated sensor or something else is currently unknown. This occurred on the morning of Sunday, November 19, 2017.
One of the Border Patrol agents later radioed into the communication center saying that he needed assistance and that he was injured. Other Border Patrol agents responded and found one agent injured and unconscious with injuries to his head and body. That agent, Rogelio Martinez, was later pronounced dead. Breitbart has learned that the agent’s family has been notified.
The responding agents also found the partner who had radioed for help. The agents transported the injured agent to the hospital where he is in “serious condition,” according to the official.
Border Patrol agents and Culberson County Sheriff’s Office deputies secured the area.
Afterwards, Border Patrol Agent Brandon Judd told Breitbart that the agents were ambushed by illegal immigrants that they were tracking for apprehension after crossing the border. After being lured into a trap, agent Rogelio Martinez was attacked by an unknown number of illegals who beat him in the head and body with rocks. Another agent arrived to assist Martinez a short time after but was also ambushed and beaten in a similar manner.
Border Patrol Agent Brandon Judd, also president of the NBPC, stated, “What we know is that Border Patrol Agent Rogilio Martinez appears to have been ambushed by a group of illegal aliens whom he was tracking. Our agents’ reports from the ground say that he was struck in the head multiple times with a rock or rocks.”
Agent Judd continued, “The other agent arrived on scene a short time later and was also ambushed and struck in the head with what is believed to have been a rock or rocks. These disgusting acts and complete disregard for human life need to stop immediately. Family members of slain Agent Martinez will never get to see him come home again all because we have failed to secure our borders from such criminals.”
Later Sunday evening, only hours after this story broke, President Trump sent out a tweet calling attention to the attack on Border Patrol agents and vowed “justice” along with reaffirming his commitment to building the wall.
Border Patrol Officer killed at Southern Border, another badly hurt. We will seek out and bring to justice those responsible. We will, and must, build the Wall!

Today, the governor of Texas is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the illegal immigrant(s) responsible for the attack.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is now offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Agent Rogelio Martinez.
“We owe a great deal of gratitude to the brave men and women of the United States Border Patrol who serve every day to protect our homeland,” said Governor Abbott. “Cecilia and I offer our deepest condolences to the families of the agents killed and seriously injured in this attack. As authorities continue their investigation, it is important that they receive any and all information to help apprehend and deliver swift justice to those responsible.”
The ACLU and various open borders advocacy groups have longed sought to limit the Border Patrol’s use of force against potentially dangerous illegals, particularly after one illegal alien was shot and killed after throwing rocks at a Border Patrol agent in 2014. The National Border Patrol Council responded to these calls to limit their armed response options by pointing out the unique dangers that their agents face along the border, while also pointing out the potential for serious injuries or death from large rocks, which are readily available in arid border areas.
Now, the exact scenario outlined by the union for Border Patrol agents in defense of their ability to respond in force to illegal attacking them with rocks, which has resulted in the death of agent Rogilio Martinez and serious injury of another.
Although the mainstream media refuses to give the attention this story deserves, you can bet that if the situation was reversed and a Border Patrol agent killed an illegal immigrant, then you’d be hearing about how horrible they are non-stop across the usual media outlets.
At this point a few questions should be asked of anyone advocating for open borders and attempting to sabotage President Trump’s efforts to build a border wall: How many American lives are an acceptable loss for you to continue pushing for open borders in order to feel good about yourself? One hundred, one thousand? At what point do the drugs and crime pouring over America’s southern border become a problem severe enough to take action, and how many families must suffer horrific losses of life so you can maintain a steady stream of cheap labor?
